Jamie is a ‘real world’ environmental trainer. He is married to Louise and has 4 young children, 3 working strain Labradors, a rescue English Bull Mastiff and two tolerant cats! Along with Louise, he also successfully breeds and prepares pedigree, working line Labrador Retrievers for the most successful life they can have. Consequently, he TOTALLY understands working and family life time-constraints, and so tailors all training accordingly!

Take the Lead Dog Training understands that classes aren’t for everyone – In fact, with the exception of puppy socialization, we know that crowded village halls or barns, are some of the least successful learning environments for your dog, particularly in respect of problem behaviours! We understand too, that class times can be inflexible and if you miss a few, you seldom carry on attending. Many class based training sessions exclude ‘aggressive’ or ‘unsociable’ dogs, but what if these are the very issues you would like addressed? If your dog attempts to yank your arm from it’s socket every time you pass a sheep, a cat or another dog, a series of classes in the local hall will be unlikely to resolve the matter!

Jamie and Dog

Life has a nasty habit of getting in the way of your best intentions and many people simply do not have the time or knowledge required, to rectify their dog’s issues themselves. All our methods are thoroughly tried, tested and scientifically supported. We know what works – because we’ve been there, helping dogs just like yours .. again and again and again!

Take the Lead Dog Training has a lifetime of experience with working and training dogs, encountering many ‘issues’ requiring special attention along the way! However experience alone constitutes only a fraction of the attributes of a successful dog trainer. We have knowledge too – lots and lots of it!

Jamie holds an FdSc canine studies with the University of Central Lancashire as a ‘mature’ (!) student. He has also studied clicker training (CAP) via courses designed by international clicker trainer, Kay Lawrence. He has given talks and demonstrations to various groups and schools, including an input for the Exeter University animal behaviour students, a large animal Welfare charity and multiple owner/trainers.

A former member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, Jamie has also worked alongside the RSPCA (Cornwall), offering behaviour assessments and training advice for problematic dogs, as well as regional GSD and Labrador rescue charities. Jamie contributes regularly to international discussion forums concerning canine training and behavior modification protocols. He owns and has read a huge personal library incorporating every aspect of canine learning, training husbandry and welfare, so you can be sure that both you and your dog are receiving the most balanced, up-to-date and effective training available. Not content with this (and never one to believe that learning has limits), Jamie is in the process of producing a set of dvd’s on training theory and application, as well as completing his first book, which focus's on the prickly subject of ‘Correction’.
